Awareness of the environment when working in a restricted area (eg. a substation) and the procedures and practices that apply, including a site visit to an operational substation. This course is suitable for people who are required to sign on a work permit before performing work on or near Western Power substation equipment.

Prerequisites for enrolment

In addition to the prerequisites stated below, you require:

  • Basic Network Authorisation  - formerly Network Authority Card (NAC)

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

What to wear

You will be visiting an active substation so you will require:

PPE Level 1, including: 

  • long-sleeved shirt and long pants  
  • safety boots  
  • high visibility vest  
  • safety glasses
  • hard hat

Additional information

Practical component of this training will take place at an operational substation - travel to the substation is required (approx. 10 minute drive).

If you do not have your own transport, please advise your trainer on the day so that alternative transport can be arranged.
