Awareness of the environment when working in a restricted area and the procedures and practices that apply. This course is suitable for people who are required to sign on a work permit before performing work on or near Western Power substation equipment.

Prerequisites for enrolment - in addition to the prerequisites stated below, you require the Basic Network Authorisation  - formerly Network Authority Card (NAC).

Mandatory PPE required - this course includes a visit to an operational substation, so you are required to wear PPE Level 1 (refer to 'What to wear' for details). If PPE requirements are not met, you will not be able to attend this course.

What to wear

You will be visiting an operational substation so you will require:

PPE Level 1, including:

  • EH1 safety protective footwear
  • Hi-vis FR long sleeve shirt
  • FR long trousers OR FR overalls
  • safety glasses
  • hard hat

Additional information

Practical component of this training will take place at an operational substation - travel to the substation is required (approx. 10 minute drive).

If you do not have your own transport, please advise your trainer on the day so that alternative transport can be arranged.
